Amanda

Amanda

I started at Multitask as a workplace student in 2007. While I was doing my work placement I found being around the clients a fulfilling experience so once my work placement ended I continued on as a volunteer. When I first came to Multitask, it was to learn about an area I knew nothing about and I was somewhat nervous! But as I went on, I found that every day the clients taught me more than I could ever teach them and they touched me profoundly, hence the continuation as a volunteer. Now I am a paid employee and that means that I can stay and be a part of some really great people's lives as well as watching them achieve their goals.

Karen

KarenThe reason why I wanted to become a Support worker was to make a difference in the quality of life enjoyed by other people. I began back in 1995 as a Volunteer Worker in Business Services, assisting in Soap Biz with the manufacturing of soap and supporting clients with their work.

I became a Casual Employee in 1998.  I applied to become a Supervisor and began working in Supported employment; working in processing soap biz. I eventually managed a small business known as the Medicine Garden 3 days a week. I then moved to Day Services and started working in both the Community Participation Program and Independent Living Service full time.  I was also seconded into a Team Leader position at Challenge Plus for a year.  I have worked full time on a project developing programs for Day Services and now I coordinate the Life Moves program.

I love working at Multitask because I enjoy working with people with an intellectual disability, who may also have a physical disability, to support them to live as full a life as possible in the community.

Anne

I commenced employment in 1991 with Challenge Foundation NSW - Lismore as a Support Worker. I was part of a team of 4 support workers employed to develop a Day Service program for 20 employees with high support needs working in the Business Services section. This program became called the Independent Living Service.

After the first year I became Coordinator of the service, which I continued for several years. I was then requested to take over the coordination of the new ageing service, Challenge Plus and my title was changed to Day Services Manager. Some years later the young school leavers program, ATLAS was transferred under the Day Services section.

I then transferred to the position of Business Services Manager which I did for 12 months, and then transferred to the position of Manager Quality Management Systems, OHS and Training which I have been doing for almost 3 years.

Working for this organisation has been one of the biggest and best learning experiences of my life (the other was having children...!!). Having worked in different roles across the organisation has enabled me to develop so many new friendships with clients, supported employees, staff and family members, and I look forward to catching up with them when possible. I have learnt so much about life, about people, my personal values and feel so very fortunate to have been given the opportunities in different roles to develop my skills, knowledge and expertise. It has been an extremely positive, rewarding and fulfilling time, and I even enjoy coming to work!!

I would encourage any person wanting to share and further develop their skills and abilities to consider working in this industry, as not only can you develop a career path in numerous directions, including management, you can have fun, meet lots of great people and feel a sense of achievement and reward at the end of the days work.
