Our History

Multitask's history is based in people with disabilities, their families and the community working together to ensure that people with disabilities have the same opportunities afforded to all people.

Multitask originated in a public meeting in June 1952 which lead to the formation of a branch of the Subnormal Children's Welfare Association. They formed a school for children with intellectual disabilities called Kayleena.  The next step forward was the establishment of Business Services in February 1968 to enable our clients to obtain employment and develop skills.  An Activity Therapy Centre was set up in 1979 designed to promote personal development to gain maximum independence and self sufficiency.   And in 1980, the first residential house was opened.  In 1984, the organisation beame known as Lismore Challenge Foundation of NSW.

From there, it  has consistently expanded its range of Business Services, Day Services and Residential services.  The organisation today owes much to the dedicated parents and citizens of 50 years ago who dedicated themselves to fundraising and supporting its ongoing development .

Name Change

From 1st July 2007 Lismore Challenge has been known as Multitask.

We chose the name because it's a simple way to convey what we do. We offer a range of services from our various programs as follows: thru our Federal funded supported employment programs we offer packaging and labelling for local businesses, nursery supplies and commercial landscaping as well as specialty soap making - all of this from our Caldwell Avenue Site. Our State funded services delivered from Molesworth Street and our Supported Accommodation Services provide day services, residential support, life-skills training, transition to work programs plus individual client services.

We continue to follow the Lismore Challenge 50 year old tradition to support and hopefully meet the needs of our Community through flexible and innovate programs. Our commitment to quality outcomes for people with a disability will continue to be our core value.

All of these changes have been exciting although challenging as we carve a pathway into the next 50 years of proving services to people with a disability.
